Pinch pot time!

Kindergarten students learned the difference between 2-D and 3-D art.  We also discovered that some art can even be functional.  They created a pinch pot and learned the basic clay building process.  They were, needless to say, excited!

What?

A lot of elementary art does not turn out the way the little artist means for it to turn out.  I do not teach so that the students produce perfection.  I teach process and experience.  I love the process of creating art.  If art was suppose to turn out well all the time my class would be stressful (and waste a whole lot of paper because they would constantly start over).  Anyway this zebra spoke to me.....it is my favorite one:)

Kinder-Zebras.

Kindergarten learned about the process of collage.  We also learned a bit about Zebras and Africa and the importance of a local zoo.  Can you tell what shapes we learned about in this project?  We are working on our drawing skills by breaking it down into shapes:)

Pi Day Activity.

Happy Birthday to good old Albert Einstein. Pi Day. I did this activity with my fourth graders. Not all things turn out perfect:) I think this is Einstein?  Basically each student got a square to enlarge using only a black crayon.  In the end we came together as a team and put it together. E=mc2!

Cubes.

Fifth graders had to do a sculpture assessment.  We used clay to sculpt cubes the best they can.  they sculpted a sphere first and then transformed the sphere into a cube.  Then later the students had to come up with a design and a game to play with the cube.  I call them game cubes.  Needless to say this was educational fun:)  I will share more later.

Character study.

Third grade has been studying characters in their classroom so I have collaborated with them and taught the students about portraiture.  We learned how to make our characters come to life in a different way other than literature.  They also did a "wordle" with our wonderful media specialist.  Collaboration is a strong tool for the kids to learn.

HeART.

Of course we have been doing different variations of heart art this week.  February is a good month to do this kind of thing.  The two artists that have inspired us this month are Chris Uphues and Jim Dine.  Our school has also declared February as nothing but kindness month.....which really should be every month if you think about it:)

Pigcasso.

First graders explored imagination and Pablo Picasso at the same time. The students put together these simple collages.  The only rule I gave them is that I did not want the pig to look the way it was suppose to.  They succeeded:)

What does the fox say?

Second grade painted these fine foxes.  We explored how basic shapes can draw pictures easily.  All were successful with drawing this animal.  We also learned contrast in colors, how to use warm and cool colors together to create an interesting work of art.  I love looking at these all day:)

Glowing lights.

So what do you do with four days until "winter break"?  I taught multiple age levels how to blend chalk pastels to make them have a glowing affect.  I do not teach "Christmas" but if a student decides that they want the holiday as their subject matter than have at it.  Fun was had by all this week. Happy "winter break":)

Out of nowhere.

So fourth grade had an opportunity to do some sculpting out of clay to work on their three dimensional thinking and all of a sudden a monster made out of tar was born. Sometimes you just never know what is going to be created....that is what is so exciting about Art!

Texture necklaces.

Kindergarten learned all about texture, which is one of the elements of art by the way.  We basically took a piece of clay and rolled it into a "sphere" and then put it on the floor and then stepped on it.  The students were amazed at the texture pattern a shoe print can make.  After glazing it we then used fine motor skills to string it and bead it.  The students loved wearing them out of the art room!

Owls of November.

Well November is pretty much over and here are some second grade owl paintings that have been created.  The students used metallic paint on black paper.  we learned that basic lines can close in to make basic shapes which can in the end create a recognizable image. Pattern and contrast was then shown throughout the student's work as well.  On to December.

R.O.Y. Trees.

Second grade has studied the color wheel and how colors work together.  Here we used the warm colors (Fall colors) to create a fall landscape scene.  The background has the cool colors in it.  I can not tell you how important color is in Art....and in our world.
