Honored.

I guess I was voted "the Best Art Teacher Ever" today:)  Thanks to the student who voted me in.  Inspiration can come from the darndest things.

Action Jackson.

Fourth grade learned about Jackson Pollock and his way of creating art.  I tied this into their STEAM unit by incorporating sound waves and music.  Jackson loved to paint while listening to Jazz music.....so we gave it a try as well.  Now every time the students get paint they do this!  Paint everywhere......

Turkey Week!

I run this thing called turkey week in art class during this week of Thanksgiving.  Some how some way the students need to create an original piece of turkey art.  This trio of turkeys spoke to me.  Happy Turkey Day!

Abc.....z.

I have a second grader who LOVES to paint the alphabet during any kind of free choice art time he has!  He just might start an art movement one of these days!

Beeeeeeees.

First grade has been learning about honey bees for their STEAM lesson. Since the "A" in STEAM is Art I figured we would create a hexagon puzzle full of bees together.  This turned out beeeeeutiful:) 

Daisies.

Even though the snow and Winter has apparently hit us early here in Wisconsin, first grade had no problem painting daisies in Art Class!  That is the beauty in Art, flowers can be a year round thing:)

Trees at night.

Whelp, the leaves are officially gone!  Fifth grade did a nice job working with the combination of black chalk and paint to create value in these pieces.  They look good on my wall:)  I will give them back later.

Butterflies.

Second grade did a great job doing some butterfly symmetry prints!  These kids are really starting to take off!

Kindergarten Sunflowers.

Kindergarten just got done painting sunflowers....the students know what the element of space is now....I think:)  Either way we had good creative fun this week in the Art Room.

Coloring sheets.

So I draw coloring sheets right in front of our little artists....it is fun and they enjoy seeing and observing the process.  I usually draw and then run off a few copies for students to color when they are finished with the actual project or activity at hand.  This way I also engage in conversation with the students on what they are interested in.  Bottom line is....if art isn't interesting, they will not enjoy it.  If you do not enjoy it, you lose the "why" in art.  

Off and painting!

I got the paints out for the first graders this past week.  Learned a bit about color and how it works.  They used warm colors on the leaves and cool colors on the background.  Most kiddos chose to trace the leaves rather than draw them free hand....good choice!

2019-2020 is on!

It is about time to start posting for the school year.  Here's to a great school year.  Here is the vision for the school I am grateful to work at.  Gooooo Westside Wildcats!

Clay day!

 

Every so often a class will come in and I will have clay as an option for the students to create with.  Well I have a student that is in love with jets....I mean he knows everything about them.  So his inspiration carried over to the art room and he sculpted an exact replica of an airline jet.  He could tell you more than I could about it!

Fifth grade has been working on a clay box.....one even turned into a volcano!  You never know where creativity might take you on any given day!  Yay!

Today’s WOW Art.

 

A wonderful kindergartner wowed me today with this little number. Kindergarten is starting to bring it in the art room!  They also bring a little mess too....but that's cool:)

Happy Spring!  This piece was created yesterday in one of my art classes.  I get to see art happen everyday here at Westside....pretty lucky. 

Lines and space.

Multiple grades did a version of this project this past week.  The idea was to have the students show what they know so far about how lines can interact with space. The lines created balanced space, positive space, negative space and depth.
