Clay tiles.

Third graders worked hard on slab art using clay. Each student created a tile with a snow person theme.  The students had fun learning the clay techniques used for this project.  Nice work third!

Elephant.

As one of the free choice options when the art students are finished I offer a lego station. The students are always amazing with their sculpting skills with these blocks. This elephant was left behind the other day......impressive!

Cartography.

Third grade learned about map making in their class rooms for their STEAM units.  In the art room I taught the students about "Cartography", which is the art of drawing and making maps.  The students learned creatively by creating their own fantasy map.  The students used their knowledge of what they learned in their classrooms to create their maps.

STEAM Bees.

First graders have been learning about honey bees for their STEAM unit.  The "A" in STEAM stands for Art!  So I ran a couple of bee inspired projects in my art room.  This was a great way to observe the bee!  Nice job first.

Bats!

Second grade has been learning about bats for their "STEAM" unit.  The "A" in "STEAM" is of course....ART.  We learned the paper mache process.  We first used cardboard to create an armature or skeleton of the bat.  And then we used paper mache paste to apply black paper to the sculptures.  Finally we used black paint and white crayons to touch up and add details.  Very nice, very messy, and my favorite.....very hands on.

Perspective sea turtles.

Third grade painted sea turtles from a different perspective.  We imagined like we were under the water looking up.  We also learned what a tint of a color is.....basically it is when you add white to a color.  These are cool....third grade is cool:)

The clay monster.

Fourth grade celebrated monstober by creating clay monsters.  We let our imagination go wild on this one!  I like using monsters as inspiration because there is simply no wrong way to do it.....because they are not real.

Scribble monster.

Kindergarten used their imagination and used line to create shape and then turned it into a monster.  Also the students did a little cutting and pasting.  Happy Monstober!

Concept of space.

Kindergarten enjoyed learning about how to use space on their paper.  Space is one of the elements of art we art teachers teach so that the students can learn balance.  It is one of the first things an artist has to decide and think about before they create.  This was fun....and a tad messy.

Color study.

Fourth grade worked on a seasonal piece that explored two different color schemes.  Warm and Cool. They were able to trace the leaf but than used their knowledge of color and design to finish it up. It’s nice because even if there isn’t a lot of Fall colors outside due to all this crazy rain, we have Fall colors inside.

The Sunflower.

Fifth Grade just finished their oversized sunflower paintings.  We learned about composition and how to use space. We also revisited what it is like to be a painter.  These are all fantastic.

Wow Art.

j

I had a second grade fella come bring this drawing in to me in the morning the other day. Fantastic drawing.  I love it when students bring in artwork that they did elsewhere.  It shows that they value,
enjoy, and love doing it.....and of course sharing it!

Poppies.

k

Third grade learned a tad about impressionism.  We were inspired by two great masters, Van Gogh and Monet.  They both did paintings that involved poppies.  The students learned how to show depth by making objects get smaller as you go higher up on the paper.  I am lucky enough to observe these paintings all day because they are now hanging on my wall.
