Space and space.

Kindergarten learned about the Art Element of Space.  And of course we tied that into outer space as well.  Metallic crayons and black construction paper is all you need to teach the little students how to use their space.  I repeated the word "space" about five thousand times during this lesson!

Brushstroke trees.

Fifth Grade showed me they knew a variety of ways to use their paintbrushes by painting various trees along a horizon line.  They twisted, blotched, dabbed, brushed, scrubbed and any other action word you could use to create their trees.  Some even used the wrong end of their brush.  This was a great problem solving activity!

Attack of the lizards.

Second grade students learned about reptiles and Australia in the Art Room.  We sculpted lizards out of clay and used texture and paint to design them in the Aboriginal style.  These all made it to the Art Show last month!

More lizards.

Animal boxes.

Fourth grade had a hoot with this one.  They drew a blueprint of there box with a pencil and designed all sides of their cube.  They even wrote footnotes to help with their construction of the box.  It is nice to have a little writing component every once in a while!  The students used the score and slip method to put thier boxes together.  Great results in the end.

Daisy tiles.

First graders learned about real texture as they designed a tile that can hang on a wall or doorknob.  We also looked at pictures of daisies and sculpted one for the center of the tile.  Then came the beads and wire, the students were happy with the outcome.
