Ceramic emoji.

Fifth grade learned about the art of emojis. We went through a lesson on simple communication we use in texts these days.  "Moji" means character in Japan.  The main object was to create a character that showed emotion using a slab (of clay).  There is an artist that designed all the emojis for the iPhone....that is his job.

At least it is snowing in the Art Room.

First grade learned about the difference between negative space and positive space.  They used mixed media to create these beauties.  It might be a while before we see a real snowman, who would have thought that there would be no snow in December in Wisconsin....we should have added surf boards and beach towels to these!

Kindergarten mouse paint.

Kindergarten is starting to explore color and how color works.  The book "Mouse Paint" is where I like to start with.  We use the shapes we already learned to draw a mouse and then I gave them puddles of the primary colors and the goal is to paint red, yellow, blue, purple, green, and orange on their paper somewhere....anywhere on their paper.

Snow puddles.

First grade and kindergarten are working on their cutting skills.  We discussed shapes and drew snowman shapes in random spots, then the task or challenge was to cut it out all in one organic shape.  The trick was to cut in different directions without cutting out any of the snowman shapes.  In the end it obviously represents a melted snowman, right?
