Second grade learned about three dimensional shapes and took some clay and sculpted a sphere first and then flattened each side to create a cube. Of course they were all into creating their cube into a dice when the paints came out. I could barely get a couple of pics of them before they just "had" to take them home

Nocturnal.
First Grade and I talked about what it means to be nocturnal. We discussed how we do not see owls to often due to the time of night they are around. We used pattern (something that repeats) and oil pastels and paint to create these nocturnal creatures. The students are always amazed when they see the oil pastels show through their paint....actually I am too.

Fall R.O.Y. Trees.
Second grade studied R.O.Y. (red, orange, yellow). Which are warm colors, which also happen to be Fall colors. We practiced certain painting techniques as well. I am telling you, Westside is full of artists!

Owls of pattern.
Second grade drew owls along with me and then used crayon, oil pastel, and tempera paint to create pattern and color. A little bit of depth through overlapping thrown in there as well. It was a good one day activity! Whoo!

The second graders learned about space and how the way you use space affects how you see things. Space is basically the area around and between objects. Second graders got it!
