Fourth grade did their own version of Claude Monet's Japanese Bridge. Monet had a backyard full of landscaping that he loved to paint. Some kids like practicing basketball, soccer, football etc. in their backyard....well this guy practiced painting! These are awesome.

Great Wave of Hokusai.
Fifth grade learned about the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. He went by 30 different names during his art career so some of his artwork might be hard to find. This one is titled "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa". The students painted their own version of this. Sometimes I give art tests and they basically observe a piece and then inspire to create their own. Well done fifth!

Van Gogh sunflower pinch pots.
Third grade used red clay to pinch out a sunflower pot. Our inspiration was Vincent Van Gogh of course. The students love creating these. They also loved learning about the art element of "form" I'm sure!

Mixed media lady bugs.
First grade (and a couple of Kindergarten classes) used paint, paper, scissors, glue, crayon to create these mixed media ladybugs. We discussed what a highlight was. Basically it is the opposite of a shadow. The students worked really hard on these, they acted like they were having fun or something.

Recycled cardboard paintings.
Third grade used recycled cardboard that I saved from the dumpster to create these paintings. We obviously had a discussion on the Earth and what Earth Day means as well as Arbor Day. The plan is to have these be a cover for a bookmaking project I have planned for them.....so stay tuned....or not.

Game cubes.
Second grade learned about three dimensional shapes and took some clay and sculpted a sphere first and then flattened each side to create a cube. Of course they were all into creating their cube into a dice when the paints came out. I could barely get a couple of pics of them before they just "had" to take them home

Third grade poppies.
Third grade learned about Monet and his art of poppies. We also learned about the importance of focal point, each student has to create a point of emphasis in their paintings. These turned out awesome in my opinion!

Space Collage.
First grade learned the art element of "Space" by creating a outer space collage. The requirement is that they had to cut and paste at least three different objects into their "space". One had to be a rocket complete with fire. We also discussed warm, cool, and neutral colors. The students definitely did not space out on this one.

Kindergarten SPACE.
Kindergarten learned about the Art element called "space". So they drew a picture that showed they understood how to use up space on a piece of paper. Oh, and the theme was....space. On a side note, I do not post a ton of kindergarten art on here because we are doing a lot of activities that involve the Elements of Art rather than a nice polished, finished work of art. Sometimes they end up with something that looks nice......and sometimes do not.

Flower power.
First grade learned about how to use space. We used fluorescent paint to create flowers in a composition that shows balance. These really brighten up the place!
