Fifth grade learned about the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. He went by 30 different names during his art career so some of his artwork might be hard to find. This one is titled "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa". The students painted their own version of this. Sometimes I give art tests and they basically observe a piece and then inspire to create their own. Well done fifth!

Art started on a rock, in a cave.
I took every student at Westside back in time to the beginning of Art. Art was originally created as a way of communication and story telling. Since there was not any language back then the artists (caveman) drew pictures on rock. Their hand prints were their identity.
