Printmaking.

Third grade went through the printmaking process with the subject matter of the Mexican holiday "Dia de los Muertos".  The students created some relief prints of a skull design.  They did a series of prints.  I love these.

District Office Art Show.

These are the five selections that are framed at the District Office this year.  Every year we have students loan out their artwork so that we can mat and frame it and display it at the D.O.  We just had our award ceremony this past week.  Congrats!

Finished monster forms.

Fourth grade finally finished their monster sculptures (I mean forms).  It is a good lesson on going with your mistakes because there is no right or wrong way to sculpt a monster....after all monsters are not real right?

Secondary Colors.

After the first graders learned about the primary colors they then naturally learned about secondary colors.  We also used depth, space, moving line, and perspective in this one.  These are cool....first grade is cool.

Color schemes.

Fifth grade discussed lines and colors.  We discovered that color schemes can make the compositions work.  If it wasn't for color schemes you would not even see the leaves in these pictures.  The students enjoyed this one more than I thought they would.

Clay monsters are coming!

In fourth grade we are sculpting monster forms.  The students absolutely love clay.  These are simple monster heads that they designed ahead of time.  A form is an object that takes up space in all directions.....in case you did not know.  It is also one of the six art elements.  I will show finished ones when we get there.

Primary Colored monsters.

Kindergarten got in on the primary color action as they drew monsters using just the primary colored markers.  We discussed color, line, shape, and pattern....I am sure they all got the lesson!  If not, then it was at least a good time.

Primary colored dancers.

First grade learned about the primary colors and how the are the "first" colors.  You need theses three colors to create all the other colors....that is a big deal in the color world.  Also, I threw in a little lesson on moving lines and space, why not right?

Monster doodles.

Every once in a while I doodle a monster card and pin it up on the wall.  I then sometimes give them away to students, they then act like I gave them a million dollars!

Kinder-lines.

So Kindergarten is starting off their elementary art career with a few lessons on lines.  They are learning that lines draw and paint pictures right now.  Not everything my students do involves an awesome looking project.  I do a lot of art activities that help teach concepts or vocabulary....of course in Kindergarten the students have to also learn what in the world paint is and how in the world do you use a paintbrush.  You have to start somewhere right?

Free choice=SHARK!

In fifth grade today a student got done with ten minutes to spare and this is what he did.  Sometimes the best stuff happens at the end of class during free choice drawing time.  Dang!

Art element of "space".

Second grade learned about how to use "space".  Something I teach my students so that they can create a more balanced composition.  This was a one day painting so that I could finally get something up on the wall for display.

First week art books.

My kinders, first and second graders started out the year with a project that involved these three books.  It is good for these kids to know that good old Mr. Cleveland knows how to read!

Here we go 2015-2016!

So on the first day of school my Smartboard went out, so I started scribbling on the whiteboard instead.......at least I didn't need to use a chalkboard!  So much for my first day of school fancy Notebook presentation.  For that I deserve a donut.
