We are one family no matter what color your skin is.

A fifth grader came up with this slogan...”No matter what color your skin is”.  No matter what, we are unified here at Westside because “We Are One Family”.   

Inspiration and motivation.

On Mike’s first week in the Art Room we did some brainstorming on who we are as a unified Westside community. Every student sketched out ideas for and with Mike.  It is SO FANTASTIC AND TOUCHING to see our kids artwork and ideas show up on our walls!  Authentic Westside.....yes! 

Stickers! Or are they tattoos?

Mike and Kat loved giving out their own original designed stickers to our scholars and artists here at Westside!  Of course one kiddo had to flex and turn one of the stickers into a tattoo!  That is what we do at Westside....think outside of the box.

Stencils and spray paint on weekends!

Mike and Kat are now weekend warriors as they come in armed with spray paint and masks to put the finishing touches on the mural! We are maybe one weekend away from being finished! I love this mural:)

I miss these two already...even though they are not done yet!

Crazy to think how much time these two spent inside the halls of Westside.  One month!

Beam me up! I must be dreaming.

Where else are you going to find cats being beamed up by flying saucers?  Only in Wildcat country!

So much to find.

The final group of kids have painted......three weeks later.

So about 300 students and staff/faculty have fully covered the walls with their creativity and identity.  Time for Mike and Kat to do their thing!

Social distancing even went on...sort of:)

Sometimes we stayed six feet from each other...sometimes.  Herding “Wildcats” was not the easiest thing to do during this creative craziness.

There is so much personal expression going on with this mural! Every student has their own identity and ideas...but yet we are unified and one as we paint!

Welcome to Westside Kindergarten!

In the final week of the Mural our kindergartners get a chance to put themselves onto the wall! I hope they don’t think they can just paint on any old wall now:). I feel everyone is learning through this creative process. 

Stencil and spray paint time!

Mike and Kat mean business...we even came in on Sunday to do a little stencil and spray paint.  This is powerful stuff right there!

The adults are back at it!

You never know what adult may come around the corner and join into the unity of it all! Just grab a cup of paint and go at it.  This has been an awesome experience...a together experience. 

A little bit of everything can be found in OUR mural!

When you give artists the freedom to express themselves, you then give them the freedom to paint whatever! Definitely a diversity of subjects painted on OUR mural!  Love it WS!

The students just keep on coming! All day I bring down our wonderful talented artists to express who they are on our mural.  Mike Lroy truly is getting a good dose of kiddos!
